“Consumers feel the next Crisis” today’s New York Times headline.
Globally conversations are filled with doom and gloom peppered ever so briefly with some brevity. Several of my friends and family are feeling the crunch, (finance and real estate), and wonderfully some people are seeing possibility. When written in Chinese, the word “crisis” is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity. And opportunity refers to a moment of chance.
What would it be like if we made a pivotfrom danger to opportunity?
The danger of losing a job to the opportunity of creating work you love.
The danger of not paying bills to the opportunity of learning to ask for help. My girlfriend shared how strapped she was and discovered groceries on her door the next day.
From a position of lack to appreciation for what we have. Give thanks with your family at dinner or before bed.
To be present for that moment of chance; ie. the possibility to learn a new skill in your present job that supports the company in this time of crisis. Be indispensable.
Are you feeling the squeeze, or are you just afraid of it? Have you put your cash in a mattress? Lost your job? Has your neighbor? Are you worried? Pulled inward? Can’t move for fear of making the wrong move?
There is a way to turn the free fall nightmare into a flying dream.

Listen, people, we are milk-fed on prosperity. Even the poor who grow up on food stamps and government help, wearing hand-me-downs and going to crumbling schools, in Western societies we live in abundance. There is enough for everyone.
This Virtual Walk – which raises funds and awareness for Stage IV breast cancer through the Gal to Gal Foundation – lets walkers create their own animated cartoon Walking Gal or Guy (Danielle’s is donning a retro track suit, and Carrie’s is sporting a bright purple jumper) and add them to a cityscape that changes every day during the month of October.
We think birthdays are a big deal. Monumental. Sacred. Really, what could be bigger in your life than the day you were born?! (Okay, the day you die is a big deal, but it doesn’t usually make for a happy party.) Every birthday is a perfect opportunity to celebrate someone, get mushy, and let them know that you’ve been paying attention to what they love. And when it’s your Day of All Days, it’s a divine window in which to be reflective, think highly of yourself, and party hearty.
Squidoo, a company led by one of my favourite marketing minds, Seth Godin, is giving away up to $80,000 to charity — as chosen by visitors to its site.
We encourage you to vote for your favorite. It’s easy - just click on the name of the organization and Squidoo will direct $2 its way.
(I voted for the Acumen Fund - powerful, productive global visionaries.)
