Fashion | October 28th, 2008 by Carrie and Danielle staff | Comments | Leave a comment

Crystalyn Kae handbags are entirely VEGAN! Designer Crystalyn Kae pulls from her international training in design and creative intuition to produce superbly crafted accessories with enduring beauty. Her solid construction and unique fashion sense have earned her the respected status for having sophisticated, discerning designs which honor the past and the present at the same time.

The signature glazed fabric is fashioned through a method in which upholstery-grade fabric is scuffed to raise the fibers, and then a sheer glaze is poured over the top. Once cured, the fabric is pressed with metal rollers and stretched to give a subtle crinkle to the glaze. The bags are well-built, water-resistant and amazingly simple to care for, and are a great fit for vegan and vegetarian EcoDivas, as they contain zero animal skins.

Muji Magic. Simple designs and affordable prices.

Fashion | October 17th, 2008 by Carrie McCarthy | Comments | Leave a comment

I’m a nut for beautifully designed, reasonably priced, eco-friendly products. Recently I was on Rebecca Walker’s web site and discovered her blog on Muji, a Japanese retail company which sells a wide range of products. They’re known for simple designs, attention to recycling and minimal packaging. No brand, quality goods. I was in heaven! And as a conscious consumer I love their business intention:

“In its deliberate pursuit of the pure and the ordinary, Muji achieves the extraordinary.”

I know it’s early to be shopping for Christmas but I’m ordering this apron for all my gourmet cooking girlfriends, aprox. $10.00 plus shipping. Check them out, and thank you, Rebecca!

In response to our Video Blog Wearing Black: Is that really the best you can do?, one of our wonderful writers, Rick Juliusson, had this to add:

What’s with this obsession with wearing black? Of all the happy, fun, beautiful colors in the world, why choose the absence of color?

In a recent video posting, Carrie and Danielle speak well about our over-reliance on black, how it’s often just the easy fallback and doesn’t work for everyone. But there’s another issue I think they missed—the message we’re sending to the world, and the influence we’re having on it.
